Jean-Claude Gruffat is Managing Director of Galileo Global Securities LLC New York. Prior to this move, he was posted in New York as a Managing Director for Citigroup. He acted as a senior calling officer worldwide on large multinational clients of the firm.
Before this global assignment, he was for 12 years Country Officer at Citi for France. During his posting in Paris, Jean-Claude ran the Global Relationship Banking teams for France, Belgium and Luxembourg for over 10 years. During this time he had the opportunity to work on many M&A transactions, fundraising through equity and bonds issuance, $ and €, syndicated facilities, hedging of currency and interest rates exposure. He offered innovative solutions to manage the cash flows of large multinationals. During his time in France, he served for a few years as a director of Citibank International, headquartered in London. Between 1973 and 1994, he had several international assignments in Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Macau, and China, then North America for Banque Indosuez, controlled by the Compagnie de Suez. Between 1987 and 1994, he ran the North American operations of Banque Indosuez, combining the management of the currency options global book of the firm, as well as its government bonds trading.
From 1994 to 1996, he was Executive Vice President and Management Board member of Banque Indosuez, running global investment banking, equities, emerging markets and the Americas out of Paris.
After the acquisition of Banque Indosuez by Credit Agricole, early 1996, Jean-Claude was appointed Chairman Asia Pacific of Credit Agricole Indosuez, based in Singapore, overseeing the bank operations in 19 countries. He sat on the board of Levesque Beaubien, one of the 5 largest stockbrokers in Canada until he joined Citi in 1998.
During his posting in France, Jean-Claude was President of the American Chamber of Commerce in France from 2008 until 2011. He has been a Foreign trade adviser to the French Prime Minister since 1984. Today, besides his position at Galileo, Jean-Claude Gruffat is Governor of the American Hospital of Paris, President of the American Hospital of Paris Foundation since June 2018, Chairman of the DC based Competitive Enterprise Institute since October 2018, and Founder of Institut des Libertes. He has been on the Board of Trustees of United Way Worldwide since 2014, one of the largest non-profit organizations that seeks to advance the common good, creating opportunities for a better life for all, by focusing on education, income and health in over 40 countries worldwide. He is a member of the Economic Club of New York and of the Union League Club, of the Hong Kong Club, and Cercle de l’Union Interalliee.
Jean-Claude Gruffat has a PhD in public law and a master in political science from the University of Lyon, France. He attended in 1987 the Stanford Executive Program, GSB, Stanford University. He is a US securities principal registered with FINRA, holding series 63, 79 and 24.
